If you are a professional coach or interested in the coaching profession, you will be interested in newly established Global Coaching Convention.
With different coaching associations across the globe, university programmes and a multitude of coach training organisations becoming established it is difficult for the person making the purchasing decision in an organisation or someone who wants to be trained as a coach to know how the different frameworks connect on the international stage.
The goal of the Global Coaching Convention is to establish a year long process in which all the key stakeholders in coaching (consumers, practitioners, educators and industry bodies) will be gathering together to discuss the key issues in relation to professional standards in coaching.
The Global Coaching Convention are establishing a world-wide collaborative dialogue that seeks to understand the needs of coaching consumers, practitioners and educators in order to develop commonly agreed guidelines and frameworks for the practice of coaching and the training of coaches.
The Global Convention on Coaching aims to acknowledge and value the diversity that exists in the field of coaching, and to begin the discussion about what competencies, knowledge and practice standards coaches already hold in common, and those they believe should be common across the globe.
The Global Convention On Coaching will establish a number of working groups covering:
- Knowledge Base for Coaching – Core and Specialist Areas
- Code of Ethics
- Core Competencies–General and Specialties
- Training Guidelines for Graduate Programmes
- Research Agenda for the Development of the Field
- Professional Status for Coaching
- Mapping the Field–What is the Field and Its Related Areas
- Selection of Coaches and Management of Coaching Engagement
- Evaluation of Coaching Engagements.
The working groups will be consulting with stakeholders in the coaching community and will produce white papers for discussion at the planned event in July 2008 which will take place in Dublin.
If you are interested in finding out how to participate in the Global Convention On Coaching details can be foind on their website. If you would like to be updated about their work you can join their mailing list by contacting them at admin@coachingconvention.org.
